Fort Bend County
Missouri City City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, November 20, 2018

Missouri City City Council on Monday voted unanimously to call a special runoff election for December 8 to elect the mayor and a council position.

Incumbent Mayor Allen Owen and Yolanda Ford will compete in the runoff, and incumbent Council Member for At-Large Position 2 Christ Preston will face Susan Soto in a runoff for the seat.

The city council voted unanimously to postpone until December 3 consideration of a request to rezone an approximately 5.19 acre tract of land from a Residential Single Family District to a Planned Development District to allow for the development of a child care facility and certain commercial uses. The site is located north of Life Pointe Church, south of Olympia Estates and east of Olympia Estates and Vicksburg.

The item was postponed to allow for a full council to be present for consideration of the item, which will require a three-fourths majority vote due to receiving statements in opposition to the change. The city council had appointed Reginald Pearson to fill the vacant District A seat, which had been held by Yolanda Jones. Pearson will be present at the December 3 meeting.

The city council voted unanimously to postpone action to December 3 regarding selection of a representative and alternate to the Houston-Galveston Area Council 2019 Transportation Policy Council and selecting a representative and alternate to the H-GAC Technical Advisory Committee.

The item was also postponed for a full council to be present.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present, with exception of the vacant District A seat. Agenda
