ACC Receives Report on Student Achievement

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents received a report on student achievement during their meeting on November 29.

President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht presented the report which included statistics on progress, success and completion for ACC students. The report also included statistics on course completion rates for first time college students, success rates for students with specific majors, degree and completion rates for certain demographic groups and more.

The production of the report was part of the college’s five-year Strategic Plan as well as one of the goals assigned to President Albrecht by the Board of Regents.

In other action, regents unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the college and the ACC Foundation.

Foundation President David Jircik also presented the organization’s annual report to the board. The Foundation awarded more than $134,913 over the past fiscal year went directly to student scholarships, Innovative Grants and additional programs at ACC.

In addition to that support, the Foundation also continued to provide assistance to students and staff recovering from the effects of Hurricane Harvey. In the 2017-19 fiscal year, the Foundation provide $48,446 for those in need. The Rebuild Texas program recently awarded an additional $87,000 grant to the Foundation to benefit those affected by Harvey.

“The mission of the Foundation is to provide opportunities for students and faculty,” Jircik said. “The 2017-18 year was a very busy and successful year for the Foundation.”

Regents also:

-approved grant applications for CDL program and Accenture Workforce and Economic Development Initiative

-approved hiring of Distance Education coordinator

-approved hiring TDCJ academic advisor

-received annual college data report

-received update on maintenance and renovation projects

-approved Local Board Policy regarding the naming of facilities

-approved reimbursement measure for employees

The board will have its next meeting at 6 p.m. on January 10 at the Nolan Ryan Center.
