HOUSTON – TxDOT is pleased to announce that US 290 construction continues to advance towards completion. This weekend will mark another major milestone as crews complete work needed to deliver additional capacity on the US 290 mainlanes between Barker Cypress and Eldridge, open all entrance and exit ramps to final configuration between Telge and Eldridge and extend the US 290 HOV lane.    

On Monday, December 17, 2018, TxDOT will open the following: 

  • One additional US 290 eastbound mainlane from Barker Cypress to Eldridge, for a total of four mainlanes.
  • One additional US 290 westbound mainlane from FM 529 to SH 6/FM 1960, for a total of five mainlanes.
  • All US 290 eastbound entrance and exit ramps, between Telge and Eldridge.
  • One additional westbound exit lane to SH 6/FM 1960 for a total of two lanes.  

The US 290 HOV lane will also be extended 2.5 miles to the west and the existing US 290 HOV eastbound entrance/westbound exit west of Eldridge will be closed permanently and relocated west of Huffmeister. 

In order to open the new lanes, a few continuous closures will be needed beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, December 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, December 17.  

US 290 Eastbound 

  • Closure of two alternate mainlanes from Telge to Eldridge
  • Total Closure of the Barker Cypress, Telge, Huffmeister, and SH 6/FM 1960 entrance ramps.

Motorists will be detoured to the eastbound frontage road and re-enter the mainlanes after West Road.

  • Total Closure of the Huffmeister, SH6/FM 1960 and Eldridge exit ramps.

Motorists will be detoured to the Jones Road exit and U-turn.   

US 290 Westbound 

  • Closure of  two alternate mainlanes from FM 529 to Eldridge
  • Total Closure of the SH 6/FM 1960 exit ramp

Motorists will be detoured to the Huffmeister exit and U-turn  

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to consider an alternate route. Police officers will be on site to assist with traffic control.
