Stafford MSD approves up to $550,000 in new book purchases
News Release
Friday, December 14, 2018

STAFFORD -- The Stafford Municipal School District Board of Trustees voted to approval a substantial investment for literacy on Monday night.

They voted 5-0 to approve up to $550,000 in new book purchases for students in Grades Pre-K through 12. Former Board President Auturo Jackson made the motion and Trustee Manuel Hinojosa, a Stafford MSD graduate, seconded the motion.

“Stafford MSD has a total commitment to the literacy of all of our students,” Stafford MSD Board President Christopher Caldwell said. “This vote will go a long in way toward establishing the resources that our students need, in order to be successful.”

Stafford MSD’s 20/20 Vision calls for 100 percent of students to read at grade level by third grade or earlier.

“I’m excited to add new, recent and exciting titles to all our libraries,” Stafford MSD Librarian Steve Perez said. “Literacy is a top priority at SMSD and having new books in not only English, but Spanish and Chinese will benefit both students and the community.  The Stafford MSD Libraries will be the one stop shop for research and pleasure reading for the Stafford community.”
