HOUSTON – Two outside lanes on I-610 East Loop southbound from the Port of Houston to Manchester have been closed to facilitate bridge inspection of the Houston Ship Channel Bridge.  During a routine inspection earlier today  our crews identified some deterioration that deems the need for a more thorough assessment and repair plan. In the interest of “safety first” both for the traveling public and those inspecting the bridge, TxDOT officials are limiting the load bearing on the bridge until a full assessment and repair plan can be determined.  Three inside lanes remain open and safe for travel.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to seek an alternate route.

• Motorists traveling southbound on I-610 East Loop southbound should detour to I-10 West to I-69 South to    I-45 South to get back to I-610 southbound.

The lane closure will remain in place until further assessment has been completed and TxDOT  officials have developed a damage repair plan.

If you have any questions you can contact TxDOT Houston District Public Information Officer Deidrea George at 713-802-5072 or 281-686-7664.
