Galveston ISD Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Friday, December 21, 2018

The Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted unanimously to authorize the superintendent to provide written comment on proposed actions in the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Feasibility Study.

The motion authorized the Superintendent Dr. Kelli Moulton to submit comments during the public comment period for the study.

“We want all of our assets to be protected as a school district,” Moulton said, stating that one of the designs would not protect the district's Crenshaw School on the Bolivar Peninsula.

She also said the district would favor leveraging coordination between agencies, and encourage restoration of the island. She said concerns included capacity of pumps involved in a levee around Galveston, and called for ongoing input in the process.

The board voted to approve the 2019-2020 School Calendar. The calendar mirrors the one used for the 2017-2018 school year. Calendar

The board voted to award a $1,609,985 contract to Excel Energy Group, Inc. for the district-wide LED lighting upgrade project.

The project includes upgrade of the facilities to LED lighting and the installation of occupancy/vacancy sensors.

The project is expected to result in annual energy savings of approximately $245,784 as well as annual bulb-replacement costs of $31,125.

The board voted to approve negotiation and execution of the Courville Stadium Scoreboard Sponsorship Agreement, and the subsequent purchase of a scoreboard from Spectrum Scoreboards. The item was amended to state that the agreement would be for a term of five years.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present. Agenda
