Beaumont, Texas - The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) hosts numerous fundraisers and educational programs a year in addition to its changing quarterly exhibitions. AMSET has selections from the permanent collection on view year-round in the Lecture Hall and West Hall with local artists showcasing works in the Café Arts.

Upcoming events are subject to change with updates noted on the website and social media pages.

Café Arts Series Jane Honovich: All Over Not Yet – November 15, 2018 – January 27, 2019

The Art of Found Objects: Enigma Variations Winter Exhibition – December 14, 2018 - March 3, 2019.

This exhibition is organized by guest curator and author, Robert Craig Bunch of San Antonio, and is an exhibit of artwork by artists with ties to Texas who use found objects.

Café Arts Series Mike Cacioppo: Happy Accidents – January 31 - April 14, 2019. Opening Reception: 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019.

Taste of the Arts Lecture Series with Dennis Kiel – February 11, 2019. Dennis Kiel, director of the Dishman Art Museum, which is located on the campus of Lamar University, will give a talk on AMSET's winter exhibition, The Art of Found Objects: Enigma Variations. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the galleries at 12:30 p.m. with lunch to follow in the Two Magnolias café, Dutch treat style.

A Vintage Valentine Dinner – February 14, 2019. A jazzy wine dinner for lovers, friends, and family, benefitting AMSET’s art education programs.

Winter Family Arts Day – Saturday, February 16, 2019. A day of family fun with entertainment, face painting, and art activities that will correlate with The Art of Found Objects: Enigma Variations. This event is free and open to the public.

Protégé 33rd Annual High School Art Competition and Exhibition - Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony – 6 p.m., February 21, 2019. This year’s juror is artist JooYoung Choi, who will be exhibiting in the main galleries March 16-June 2, 2019. The Protégé exhibition will be on view at AMSET – February 21 through March 24, 2019. AMSET believes it is important that young artists have an early opportunity to enter art competitions and to learn professional exhibition protocol. This exhibit travels to other regional venues.

JooYoung Choi: Big Time Dreaming in the Age of Uncertainty Spring Exhibition – March 16 – June 2, 2019. This exhibition will include soft sculptures and video stations, as well as puppets and mixed media paintings. Choi will also teach a flower workshop, March 2nd and 3rd to guests prior to her installation, inviting them to enter her world. AMSET will also present a documentary film about Choi and her work as part of our interpretative programming.

Jules Buck Jones: Future Fossils Spring Exhibition – March 16 – June 2, 2019. This exhibition will feature large-scale, mixed media paintings, drawings, and installations of hybridized bird forms influenced by biological concerns, mythology, fact and fiction. A monograph published by the artist will be available during the exhibition, and a book signing will take place at the opening reception.

22nd Annual Go for the Gold Party and Reverse Drawing – March 21, 2019. Tickets are $100 and include admission, dinner and cocktails for two, along with one entry into the most exciting drawing in town. Three ticket holders get a chance to win prizes in gold. The holder of the last ticket drawn from the hopper will receive $10,000 in gold. Proceeds from Go for the Gold benefit the museum’s exhibitions and educational programming.

Spring Exhibition Opening Reception – Friday, March 22, 2019. Artists JooYoung Choi and Jules Buck Jones will be present. Light refreshments will be served complimentary of AMSET.

AMSET Book Club – Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Our next book club, which is free and open to the public, will meet on Tuesday, April 9th at 5:30 p.m. and will be discussing Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. 

Café Arts Series featuring Sandy Walker – April 18 – June 23, 2019

Spring Family Arts Day – May 18, 2019. This FREE day of family fun will give children and their families an opportunity to participate in several hands-on art activities that correlate with AMSET’s current exhibitions, JooYoung Choi: Big Time Dreaming in the Age of Uncertainty and Jules Buck Jones: Future Fossils. Entertainment, face painting, and refreshments will be provided.

Summer ArtVentures Creative Kids Camp – June 3 – July 12, 2019. At AMSET’s popular summer camp, children ages 5-14 can participate in intensive art education classes taught by professional artists. Selections from the Permanent Collection Summer Exhibition – June 15 – September 1, 2019. Recent acquisitions will be highlighted from AMSET’s growing permanent collection.

Summer Exhibition Opening Reception – 6 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2019. Light refreshments will be served complimentary of AMSET.

Café Arts Series featuring Jennifer Thompson – June 27 – August 25, 2019

Summer Family Arts Day – 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019. This free event will have entertainment, face painting, refreshments, and unique art activities inspired by AMSET’s recent acquisitions that will be on view in the main galleries.

Anniversary Gala 2019 – 6:30 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019. AMSET’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the anniversary gala includes live entertainment, dancing, fine dining, live/silent auctions, and more. All proceeds benefit the museum’s exhibitions and education programming.

Prince Varughese Thomas Fall Exhibition – On view September 21 – December 1, 2019.

Fall Exhibition Opening Reception – 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2019. Prince Varughese Thomas will give a gallery talk. Admission is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served complimentary of AMSET.

The Monster Mash: AMSET Bash – 7-11 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2019. This costume party will once again transform the art museum into a haunted house with live entertainment, treats, and seasonal brews. All proceeds benefit the museum’s exhibitions and education programming.

“Eat a Bug!” Family Arts Day – 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2019. “Eat a Bug!” Family Arts Day is one of AMSET’s most popular events, where children and their families are tempted to eat fried crickets. Hands-on art activities focus on the many cultures of our region and the main gallery exhibitions. Visitors will learn about the current exhibits on view through hands-on art activities as well as Day of the Dead and Latin American crafts such as decorated

sugar skulls. Entertainment includes Latin American music and dancing. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. The event is free and open to the public.

Holiday Tree Lighting – 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday, December 5, 2019. AMSET and area museums, attractions and local businesses will host the annual Holiday Tree Lighting. Families and children are invited to participate in art activities, pictures with Santa, mailing letters to the North Pole, and the lighting of the tree at 6 p.m. sharp.

Gingerbread House Workshop – 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019. Families and friends combine architectural design and pastry skills in this annual sugary workshop at AMSET. Just in time for the Christmas holidays, this sweet day of family fun allows participants to create an edible gingerbread house masterpiece.
