Fort Bend County
Missouri City City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, January 08, 2019

Missouri City City Council on Monday voted unanimously to award a $14,054,505 contract to LEM Construction Company for the construction of the second phase of the regional water treatment plant expansion.

The project will increase the regional water treatment plant's capacity in order to accommodate growth and groundwater reduction requirements. Currently the plant produces an average daily flow of 6.5 million gallons in the winter months and peak flows reaching 10.5 million gallons in summer months.

The project is expected to be complete 540 days from the start of construction.

The city council voted 6-1, with Anthony Maroulis opposed, to approve, on final reading, an ordinance amending regulations and restrictions for Planned Development District No. 81 to allow for a mixed use development to include commercial, retail, townhomes and multifamily residential developments.

The district is located north of the intersection of Fifth Street and FM 1092.

Maroulis said he opposed the construction of 288 multifamily dwelling units the amendment would allow.
The city council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution denying a request from Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 24 to annex approximately 519 acres of land into the city's groundwater reduction plan area.

The city's Groundwater Reduction Plan Oversight Committee concluded that accepting the additional development into the plan area would negatively impact the plan's achievement of the Fort Bend County Subsidence District's 2025 groundwater reduction mandate.

All other action items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
