Houston METRO Offers Free Transit for Federal Workers

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, METRO will offer free rides to federal government employees who have been affected by the partial government shutdown.

Free transit service will be available to federal workers for the duration of the government shutdown on METRO local bus, METRORail, Park & Ride and METROLift. Federal workers will need to show a federally issued government employee identification card at the time of boarding to receive the free ride benefit.

At least 35,000 Texans are on the federal payroll, including several thousand in Houston and the surrounding region.
