by Garrett Bryce
Friday, January 25, 2019

Candidate filing is under way for city council and school board races on the May 4 Election ballot in Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris and Jefferson counties.

Among the races are mayoral positions in Clear Lake Shores, Hitchcock, Jamaica Beach, Kemah, Village of Tiki Island, Deer Park, Pasadena, Beaumont and Port Arthur.

To date, special measures include a referendum to extend the imposition of the City of Galveston's parking fee on Seawall Boulevard between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, and to increase the fee to $2 per hour, with a minimum purchase of 2 hours, not to exceed $16 per day and an annual permit not to exceed $45.

Also on the ballot are two bond propositions in League City for the issuance of bonds. Proposition A, if authorized by voters, would provide $73 million in bonds for flood protection and drainage improvements. Proposition B would fund $72 million in mobility improvements.

League City voters will also vote on authorizing the city to increase its sales tax by 0.25 percent to fund street improvement costs.

Filing continues through February 15. Early voting begins April 22. For a full list of offices and measures planned for the May 4 Election, visit the Election Page.
