Communities In Schools – Bay Area Receives $5,000 Grant From TNMP Fund

Houston - Communities In Schools – Bay Area is pleased to announce it has received a $5,000 grant from the TNMP Fund to support professional development training for staff. Fifteen qualifying organizations, schools and municipalities that are part of Texas-New Mexico Power's territory were awarded Power Grants for 2018.

Founded in 1989, CIS – Bay Area is a nonprofit dropout prevention organization that provides supportive services for 28 Clear Creek and Dickinson ISD campuses in Harris and Galveston counties. More than 22,000 students have access to CIS – Bay Area programming that includes academic interventions, resource connection, basic needs assistance, and mental health support. CIS – Bay Area provides intensive case management services for more than 1,200 students. Communities served by CIS – Bay Area include Houston, Dickinson, Webster, League City, and Friendswood.

Grant funding will support Social Emotional Learning Training for the staff of Communities In Schools – Bay Area. Dr. Peter Wuenschel, Executive Director of Communities In Schools – Bay Area, is excited for this professional development opportunity. “Social Emotional concepts, such as decision-making, nurturing empathy, managing emotions, and developing trusting relationships, are powerful skill sets that are beneficial to children in school and at home. Integrating social emotional practices into our service model will only strengthen our impact on the children we serve. We are truly honored to be a recipient of the 2018 TNMP Power Grant, and look forward to this new partnership.”

Texas-New Mexico Power is a transmission and distribution service provider that delivers power to about 249,000 homes and businesses on behalf of retail electric providers in Texas. The TNMP Fund is a division of the PNM Resources Foundation. More information is available at
