The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority today voted unanimously to renew the port authority's professional membership to the Alliance for I-69 Texas and payment of dues in an amount not to exceed $57,500.

The commission voted unanimously to approve an agreement between the Houston Independent School District, Houston Community College, University of Houston-Downtown and the port authority for development and expansion of a degree progression program for students studying maritime logistics or global supply chain management.

The commission voted unanimously to approve the purchase of insurance from various carriers, effective March 1, for the port authority's primary and excess property and casualty insurance coverage needs, in a total amount not to exceed $5.2 million.

The commission deferred action regarding three items related to the renovation of the executive office building:

  • Award of a $5,632,125 contract for renovation of the office building at the Turning Basin Terminal
  • Award of a construction contract to Electra Ling, Inc. for Information Technology improvements at the executive office building
  • Issuance of a purchase order to OFS Brands-Agile Interiors for the purchase of office furniture in connection with renovation of the executive office building

The commission took no action related to items to be discussed in closed session. No executive session was held.

During the meeting, the board presented a resolution honoring the 50th anniversary of the Houston International Seafarers center.

The meeting was the last chaired by Janiece Longoria. Richard “Ric” Campo has been elected by Harris County Commissioners Court and the City of Houston to serve as the next chair of the board.
