Houston - Harris County Democratic Party Statement on the Secretary of State’s Election Advisory
It's been a week since the Secretary of the State of Texas issued an advisory that almost 95,000 registered voters may not be citizens.
During the subsequent week those claims have been exposed as being based on faulty data and “WEAK” matches. Harris County had the largest number of registered voters on the list issued last week and 60% have already been identified as citizens.
The advisory by the Secretary of State has still not been publicly rescinded or modified and the silence from that office speaks volumes as to what we believe was their original intent, to intimate immigrant voters and the continuation of the Republican Party’s false narrative of widespread voter fraud.
We hope that the Secretary of State, Attorney General and the Governor who were all quick to loudly proclaim that non-citizens in Texas were potentially voting will come out just as enthusiastically with the truth.
The right to vote by every eligible citizen is the bedrock of Democracy. The Harris County Democratic Party believes that every eligible voter in Harris County should be able to exercise that right freely and without intimidation.
