State of Texas
Statement from Representative Reynolds in response to Governor Abbott's State of the State
News Release
Wednesday, February 06, 2019

On Tuesday, the Governor delivered his State of the State at the Capitol. There were some good points, and some things that I was disappointed to hear. I was pleased to hear the Governor reiterate his commitment to address and reform our school finance system. Unfortunately, he did not commit to putting more much needed state funds into our schools. I was also disappointed that the Governor did not mention funding a full day of Pre K and did not address our shortfall for our Teachers Health Care. My colleagues and I are committed to fighting to fully fund our neighborhood schools, address the teacher health care shortage and help our students be more successful by starting early with funding a full day of Pre K for all of our Texas children.

I applaud the focus of the Governor on addressing our mental health issues in this state, supporting our veterans and on funding for rape kits and victims of sexual violence. I was disheartened that the Governor did not mention that he was even concerned about Texas having the highest rate of uninsured in the country. I will continue to file legislation and fight for a Texas solution for closing the health care coverage gap, which would be a huge step toward improving health care for all Texans. I am focused on the real priorities that matter to you and your neighbors; Good neighborhood schools, affordable healthcare, job creation, and criminal justice reforms.

Ron Reynolds represents Texas House District 27, which encompasses communities of Fort Bend County. Representative Reynolds currently serves as a member of the House Committees on Defense and Veterans' Affairs and Environmental Regulations.
