Investigation into Incident at 10414 Richmond Avenue
News Release
Thursday, February 07, 2019

Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a man following an incident that occurred at 10414 Richmond Avenue about 4:15 p.m. on Saturday (February 2).

Gregory Yarber, 55, was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital where, on Monday (February 4), he was pronounced dead.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Ynosencio and Detective E. Contreras reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a disturbance call at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found Mr. Yarber in the street and yelling that someone was trying to kill him.

When officers attempted to detain Yarber, he resisted, prompting the officers to use leg restraints on him.  Officers placed Yarber in the backseat of a patrol car and contacted Houston Fire Department paramedics to examine him prior to transport to The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD Neuropsychiatric Center (NPC).

While transporting Yarber to NPC, he became unresponsive.  Officers pulled over in the 3700 block of the Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) and began administering CPR on Yarber.  HFD paramedics then transported him to the hospital in critical condition.

On Monday (February 4), family members removed Yarber from life support and he was pronounced deceased that same day.

The investigation is continuing.
